2022 LIMRA Anti-Money Laundering Training

Every two years, all producers that work with Principal® and sell Principal products must complete the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) program. The program helps us comply with industry-wide regulations that help prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.

Producers are on the front lines of a multibillion-dollar industry, and they’re in a unique position to spot and help prevent the misuse of our products in connection with money laundering and the financing of terrorist activities.

Because all producers affiliated with Principal need to complete this program, we’re asking for your help making sure producers complete the required AML training by Friday, Sept. 30, 2022. Producers who have completed AML training through LIMRA (via Principal or other insurance companies) within the past 12-18 months are not required to complete the training at this time.

What does the AML program cover?

We’ve worked with LIMRA to make a web-based AML refresher course available. It covers permanent individual cash value life insurance policies and individual annuity contracts (collectively, covered products).

All producers that sell these covered products need to do the following:

  • Make sure complete, accurate information is included on the application and related documents.
  • Notify the company of transactions that raise red flags, suggesting suspicious activity.
  • Take ongoing AML training.

Note: AML programs required for SEC-registered broker/dealers already address variable annuity contracts and variable life insurance policies. Other products, including individual term life policies, group life policies, individual or group disability income policies, and group annuity contracts, aren’t included.

What happens if producers don’t complete the training by Sept. 30, 2022?

If the training isn’t completed by Sept 30, any new business considered a covered product submitted by the producer could be delayed and not issued until the training has been completed.

What do producers need to know to take this training?

  • Access the 2022 refresher course, “Money Laundering and Cybercrime-Anti-Money Laundering for Insurance Review” at https://knowledge.limra.com.
  • For the best experience, plan to take the course using Google Chrome.
  • Their username is their National Producer Number (NPN). If they don’t know their NPN and need to look it up, they can visit http://nipr.com to find it.
  • If they haven’t accessed the course before, their password is their last name.
  • If they’ve already accessed the course, or have accessed the LIMRA site in the past, they’ll need to use the password they set up when they first took this course or accessed the site. If they don’t remember their password, they can click “Forgot Password” on the login page to the course site for help resetting the password.
  • If this is their first time accessing LIMRA’s AML materials, they’ll have to take a basic training course before they can take this refresher course.
  • If they need help accessing the course, they can get technical assistance by calling 866-364-2380 or emailing support@cfmpartners.com.
  • They can expect the course to take around 30 minutes to complete.

Does the producer need to notify anyone that the course is completed?

No. Principal has access to this information through LIMRA and can obtain up-to-date information on course completion.
