If there is no plan to pay for these costs, it will usually fall on families to provide the care themselves. But this is not without consequences. In fact, with one third of individuals having done no planning for their own long-term care needs,1 nearly 50 million adults in the U.S. are providing personal assistance for family members with disabilities or other care needs.2 And up to 70% of family caregivers have clinically significant symptoms of depression.3
