The Agent-Client Relationship

Establishing and maintaining the trust of customers is crucial. This involves placing the needs of customers as a top  priority and avoiding even the appearance of impropriety. Therefore, American Equity holds the relationship between the agent and the client to the highest standard. As a company practice, we do not allow current or former agents, their spouses, or persons affiliated with the agent’s office to act on behalf of a contract owner as trustee of a trust or attorney-in-fact under a power of attorney, unless the agent has a close familial relationship with the contract owner. Additionally, we do not accept beneficiary designations that name a current or former agent, their spouse, or any person affiliated with the agent’s office as beneficiary of an annuity contract which the agent sold or serviced, unless the agent has a close familial relationship with the contract owner.
